Geometry and Kinematics of the Harris Cove Fault near Naked Creak, Page County, Virginia

Abstract
The Harris Cove Fault is a north-northwest striking sub-vertical fault in Page and Greene Counties in the Virginia Blue Ridge. Mapping in the region between Big Creek and the West Branch of Naked Creek across Falls Hollow and Long Ridge verifies the existence of a north-northwest striking contact between the basement complex and the Catoctin Formation. Analysis of structural data in the study area reveals that extension fractures oriented approximately parallel to the Harris Cove Fault occur in multiple rock types throughout the region. The orientation of the fault and parallel features is broadly similar to a set of topographic lineaments, brittle faults and Mesozoic diabase dikes studied by Hasty and Bailey, suggesting that the Harris Cove Fault may also be a Mesozoic feature.
