Uncommon devotion: the character of one Union soldier

Harper, John C. W.
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to illustrate William Taylor’s exceptionality by examining his letters and comparing his character to that of other soldiers in the Union army. In doing this, I have attempted to reconstruct the environment in which Union soldiers lived in order for one to gain a greater appreciation for what an individual had to endure during the Civil War.
