Abstract
A great big, "thank-you," goes to Dr. Brent Owens for his guidance and support, and his willingness to be available on a moment's notice. His patience and enthusiasm made this project an idyllic first foray into geologic research. Thanks are also due to Dr. Ellen Stofan, whose generous financial contribution alleviated many financial concerns about this project, and ultimately made its broad scope feasible. The contributions of several scientists, especially Stephen Herman at Old Dominion University, Dr. Harvey Belkin, of the USGS, and Dr. John Slack, also of the USGS, have greatly enhanced the quality of this project, and made an invaluable contribution to my undergraduate education. I am also deeply indebted to all of my geology professors at the College, as they, collectively, were the ones to help me discover not only my great passion for science, but also for the study of the wonder and beauty of the Earth.
