Abstract
The rugged topography now present along the Appalachian Mountain Range has been a continual cause of inquiry for geologists. The reason being, the mountain chain lies along a passive continental margin with tectonic events ending over 180 million years ago (Faill, 1998). With the advent of recent research methodology such as longitudinal profile analysis and cosmogenic radionuclide dating as well as the geomorphology concepts advanced by Hack (1960), geologists have come closer to understanding the recent geologic history of the Appalachian landscape and the processes that act on it.
