Abstract
This thesis analyzes the controversy surrounding James Frey's memoir "A Million Little Pieces" as it was portrayed through the media of Oprah Winfrey. It uses the Frey controversy to elucidate the mechanisms through which Winfrey has achieved her wealth, power, and continued popularity.
