The Catch Up

Taguchi, Katie
Abstract
The Catch Up is a six episode limited series that follows Millie, a smart and dogmatic 18 year old starting her first year at a fictional liberal arts college. Coming into college, Millie feels as if she hasn't had any of the traditional coming of age experiences. The series follows Millie's desperate pursuit to make up for lost time and catch up to her peers. In her determination to check things off of a coming-of-age checklist, Millie enters an impassioned but toxic relationship with her elusive roommate, August. The Catch Up depicts the messiness, sometimes the drama, and largely the confusion that can come with being a queer woman first learning to navigate friendships and relationships. The series takes place over Millie's first semester at college, each episode spanning one month of Millie’s freshman year. The first episode is entitled August, the second episode is entitled September, and so on. The Catch Up’s intention is to display an unconventional coming of age story in hopes of challenging what coming of age really means in the first place.
