Abstract
This Honors project uses semi structured, in-depth interviews to investigate the ideals and experiences of intimate relationships among Chinese international students at the College of William and Mary. Specifically, this study explores how Chinese international students negotiate among various cultural forces to formulate their own ideals about gender relations and sexual practices in intimate relationships, and how they position themselves within the patriarchal or liberal discourse related to gender and sexuality. This study also looks at how these students navigate their national and cultural identities along with their gender and sexual identities when crossing both the physical and symbolic boundaries between China and the US.
