Abstract
The cetaceans and accompanying fossils found at the Monk-Iverson-Haddock site, near St. Stephen’s Church, in King and Queen County, Virginia represent a major part of the fossil assemblage found in the Calvert Formation. These fossils date to around 16 million years ago. This places these cetaceans at a period of time that saw the cetaceans undergoing the change from archaic to modern species. Two distinct sites of fossil abundance were found. The remains represent several different types of animals, including seals, fish, sharks, rays, odonticetes, mysticetes, turtle, and invertebrates. The Calvert Formation has been leached and is missing most of the invertebrates.
