Abstract
Colonial National Historical Park (COLO) is a unique park within the National Park Service (NPS); it preserves important historical and geological sites, including several valuable fossil localities. There has never been a complete survey of the fossils found within the park despite the presence of multiple fossil localities, including the type section for the Moore House Member of the Yorktown Formation. Over summer of 2020, multiple bulk samples of fossils and sediments were collected from various localities. Nearly 150 pounds of fossils were collected and subsequently sieved, sorted, identified, and counted. Information regarding these fossils will be published with the NPS in the first comprehensive, park-specific inventory on COLO’s fossils and geology. Additionally, these fossils will be added to COLO’s museum collections, which currently lack a representative sample of fossils in the park.
