Abstract
The Neoproterozoic Swift Run Formation of the Virginia Blue Ridge shows great variance in thickness and rock type over short distances. A map of bedrock geology was produced of a 4 square kilometers study area to investigate this formation. Along a southwest to northeast transect, the Swift Run Formation was found to thin from 250 feet to not present and then reappear up to 50 feet. Cliffs of Swift Run included highly deformed phyllites, arkosic sandstones and conglomerates. The conglomerates lacked lithics of the basement suggesting considerable transport furthering previous hypotheses of fluvial origin for the Swift Run Formation.
