Institutions and Economics: The Effectiveness of Reconstruction Efforts in Bosnia

Kramer, Ashley
Abstract
This project looks at the effectiveness of different institutions involved in economic reconstruction in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Addressing the economic situation in a post-conflict setting is an essential part of the reconstructive process. I use both quantitative survey data and qualitative interview research in an attempt to discover why different types of organizations engage in economic reconstruction more effectively than others. An institution's resources, objectives for the community, and connection to the local population all impact effectiveness; my goal is to find a way to capitalize on certain organizations' strengths in order to compensate for others' weaknesses.
