Charlotte Brontë's Victorian Women: A Psychological Analysis in Light of Jungian Theory
Elam, Virginia

Abstract
This thesis examines Charlotte Brontë's two major works, Jane Eyre and Villette, and uses these as the primary texts from which a psychological analysis of repressed memory and creative expression is produced. Using Carl Jung's work as a model to analyze these two works, this thesis provides a comprehensive study of the Victorian female psyche and demonstrates to what extent Bronte's portrayal of the female mind is a reflection of her own psychological state.
