Abstract

The Lynnhaven Bay system is perceived by many to have a high value because of its aesthetic qualities. It is an attractive body of water to live by and enjoy. Its general cleanliness and combination of broad bays and small coves make it ideal for sailing, boating and other recreational activities. Historically the Lynnhaven oyster·has been acclaimed as an epicurean delight. These positive qualities and proximity to more urbanized areas have attracted many to live either on its shore or within the basin. What was almost entirely rural is becoming more and more urbanized. The urbanization has been underway for several decades and is projected to continue for several more decades.
