Abstract
This report describes and documents an analysis of the m1xmg and dilution· of the Chesapeake Corporation's process water discharge into the Pamunkey River at West Point, Virginia. The analysis involves the application of the Virginia Institute of Marine Science's three dimensional environmental fluid dynamics computer code, EFDC, to model the combined York, Pamunkey and Mattaponi Rivers. Following a large scale tidal calibration, the model's ability to predict the mixing of discharges into the river system is verified by the simulation of a field dye release study. The model is then used to predict mixing and dilution of the Chesapeake Corporation's West Point plant's process water discharge into the Pamunkey River at sustained low and mean flow conditions.
