Abstract
In James City County, Virginia there are many retention ponds scattered throughout new developments, and with each new development comes the construction of a new retention pond or multiple ponds to mitigate the effects of urbanization. Guidance in the construction of these ponds would greatly enhance the chances of the pond performing up to EPA regulations of restoring predevelopment flows. In this area, a large amount of data has yet to be collected to determine whether the methods in practice are functioning properly. Not only are we testing the functioning pond to discern whether it is performing up to the James City County regulations, but also whether or not the plans for our pond meet the standards as well. This research attempts to add to the greater collection of data and to help aid in creating more viable pond designs in the future.
