Abstract
The Mechum River Formation, located near Batesville, Virginia, possesses an unknown layer of rock that we hypothesize to be felsic volcanic meta-ash, in contrast with the metasedimentary sandstones comprising the majority of the formation. This research seeks to determine if this rock is indeed an ash, and if so, can it be dated? And if this rock can be dated, then it is possible for it be correlated with other known Neoproterozoic glacial deposits currently seen as evidence towards the Snowball Earth hypothesis.
