Abstract

To depict the extent of suitable habitat for striped bass age-0 to -4 across a range of environmental conditions, six years between 1996 and 2019 were selected to represent relatively low, high, and average thermal (warm, average, cool) and hydrologic (wet, average, dry) conditions in the Chesapeake Bay.

Habitat suitability maps for each age class, survey, and season combination studied for juvenile striped bass are provided as data layers suitable for GIS use as .asc files for each of these six years. Habitat suitability indices were estimated using procedures described in Dixon et al. (2022; see associated publication below).

Maps depicting the persistence of suitable habitat for each age class, survey, and season combination are also provided as data layers suitable for GIS use as .asc files. Procedures used to calculate persistence of suitable habitat are also described in Dixon et al. (2022; see associated publication below).

Description

Data Format: Spatially-explicit data layers suitable for GIS use (ASCII raster format files for map creation). Includes 48 maps that depict the extent of suitable habitat in a select subset of years that represent relatively cool, warm, wet, dry, and average conditions between 1996-2019. Also includes 8 maps that depict the persistence of habitat (proportion of years) that are suitable for age-0 and age 1-4 striped bass from 1996-2019. Files provided in .zip folder.

Trawl Surveys refer to the VIMS Juvenile Fish Trawl Survey program under the direction of Drs. M. C. Fabrizio and T. D. Tuckey and the MDDNR Blue Crab Blue Crab Summer Trawl Survey program. Protocols and methodological details for the VIMS trawl survey can be found in:

Protocols for the MDDNR survey can be found in Dixon et al. (2022; see associated publication below).

ChesMMAP Survey refers to the Chesapeake Bay Multispecies Monitoring and Assessment Program (ChesMMAP) under the direction of C. F. Bonzek et al. Protocols and methodological details for ChesMMAP can be found in:
