Abstract
Abstract:
In my freshman year of college, I decided to pursue a psychology minor. I took an introduction to psychology class and gained an interest in researching mental illnesses and personality disorders, specifically narcissistic personality disorder. I started working on my play Psych Ward in 2018. I incorporated characters with illnesses and disorders such as narcissistic personality disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, disorganized schizophrenia, and dissociative identity disorder. My goals for the play were to provide realistic representation of mental illnesses and personality disorders and challenge myths and stigmas about psych wards and mental illnesses. My thesis details the writing process and development of the play through readings and workshops.
